Hakari is a small leather goods brand designed in Tokyo and made by professional artisans — built around two emblems that have meant something for thousands of years, and the cities where those meanings now live.

Hakari began with a question: why do the symbols we trust most live on objects we treat as disposable?
The phoenix has meant rebirth for three thousand years. The lion has guarded shrines for nearly as long. They appear in temples, on coins, in the architecture of every culture that's ever needed something to protect or to begin again. And then they disappear — flattened onto fast fashion, printed on novelty merch, reduced to decoration.
We wanted to take the oldest symbols we knew and put them back where they belonged: pressed deep into something built to last. Designed with care. Made by professional artisans. Carried, not collected.
three thousand years apart
the phoenix
The phoenix has meant rebirth for three millennia — rising from what burned it. We drew ours into a circuit board, because the thing being rebuilt now is mostly made of information. Cities of code. Identities reconstructed from logins. The bird that returns from ash now returns from data.
the lion
The lion — shishi — is older still. Carved in stone outside every shrine in Japan, mouth open or closed, guarding what's inside. We gave ours a full mane of sunlight, faceted into geometry, and set it on card holders. Same job, smaller scale: guard what you carry.
the work, not the name
We don't put a name on the brand because Hakari isn't about a personality. It's about the work — and the symbols, and the people who carry them.
Every piece is designed in Tokyo and made by professional artisans, hand-pressed into premium nappa leather against original artwork drawn for this brand and no other. The phoenix, the lion — these aren't borrowed icons or stock illustrations. They were built from scratch to mean something specific: rebirth in the age of code, guardianship at any scale.
